Can my system handle COD4?

So call of Duty: 4 is out and steadily getting popular but your not sure if your older PC can play it or maybe you need so pointers on cheap upgrades? This is the place to look!

I suppose the 1st thing to do is post what the developers recommend.

Recommended requirements:
CPU: 2.4 GHz Dual Core or better
RAM: 1GB for XP and 2GB for Vista
HD: 8GB Free Space
GFX: 3.0 Shader Support, Nvidia Geforce 7800, ATI Radeon X1800 or better.

Minimum requirements:
CPU: Intel® Pentium® 4 2.4 GHz, AMD® Athlon™ 64 2800+ processor
or any 1.8Ghz Dual Core Processor or better.
RAM: 512MB RAM (768MB for Windows Vista)
HD: 8GB Free SPace
GFX: NVIDIA® Geforce™ 6600, ATI® Radeon® 9800Pro or better

Thats not to bad is it? No need for a super computer and no need to break the bank for upgrades!

1 gig of ram for xp. ram is very cheap if you are still running on 512 let me recommend newegg.com a single gig of ram will cost between 20 and 40 dollars and I will recommend ddr2 800.

The minimum video needs are pretty low but that is the minimum. If you are running PCIe I will recommend 3 cards at 3 price points:
Nvidia 8600GT at $99.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814150230

Nvidia 8800GS at $169.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814150276

(For ATi Fanboys like me)
ATI 3850 512 at $172.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814102715

and the Nvida 9600GT at $174.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814127332

Still running on AGP?? HAA HAA no kidding Ive got a good one for you:
ATi2600XT at $116.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814102718

or the

ATi HD3850 512 at $219.99 (a little pricey) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814102730

Getting anything more powerful then the above cards would only provide better graphics in more demanding or future games.

Beyond ram and video card the rest isn't all that major. Make sure your cpu is at least 3.2 for a single core or 2.0 for a dual core and your should be good though with a good video card your CPU can meet the minimum and be ok.

I am hoping others can contibute to this post.

Make sure your CPU is greater than a 2.4ghz Solo Core. If this is the case, then you may be disconnected for taking too long to connect. I recently switched over to a Server Grade computer with a 2.4 ghz octo-core and loading takes 5 x faster. Before it took at least 2 minutes to load and I would always get kicked out. Now, it takes me 15-20 seconds to load in. Also 2gigs of RAM really helps speed things up!

Overclock

Don't forget, on many of these new Dual/Quad cores you can overclock. My 2.4 quad is OC'd to 3.33 Ghz. Never have any problem connecting in 10 - 15 seconds.

Sweet Jesus - Ocotocore? Sounds like a Bond film.
